ULTRA SOUND BILL PASSES HOUSE!
HB 147, the ultra sound bill that requires a doctor
who is going to perform an abortion to offer to perform a sonogram – and
then to offer it to the woman to view – passed with a bi-partisan effort in
the House today by a vote of 116-54.
I was sitting in the chamber with Caryl Swift, Kevin
Harris, Nancy Stith and Karen LaBarr with Georgia Right to Life, Mary Boyert
with the Catholic Archdiocese when the bill passed. It has been a long time
coming for us to be able to pass pro-life legislation and we are grateful to
all – Republican and Democrat – who voted for the common sense bill.
House Republicans who voted against
the bill were Jill Chambers (81), Bobby Franklin (43), and Ed Lindsey (54).
House Democrats who voted for the
bill were Ellis Black (174), Amy Carter (175), Carl Von Epps (128), Mike
Glanton (76), Gerald Greene (149), Bob Hanner (148), Keith Heard (114),
Charles Jenkins (8), Celeste Johnson (75), Randall Mangham (94), Dubose
Porter (143), Alan Powell (29), Barbara Reece (11), Willie Talton (145), and
Don Wix (32).
