THANK YOU FOR YOUR CALLS!
Legalization of Sunday alcohol sales stopped in
committee!
Late yesterday, the Senate Rules Committee Chairman
Don Balfour, said Senate leadership had met and concluded there were not
enough votes to pass the bill.
Lt. Governor Casey Cagle had said he is not in favor
of scheduling debate on controversial bills that have no chance of passing.
Thank you to the many pastors who called in
opposition to this bill. Thank you to Pastors Aaron McCollough, Mike
Griffin, and Mike Reeves who came from out of town in order to appear before
the Health and Human Services Committee to testify in opposition to the
bill. Thanks to all of you who made those calls!
When interviewed by the media yesterday, I said: "The
voice of the people was heard, and the lawmakers responded."
And that is exactly what happened! As always,
YOU make the difference when you respond to our alerts and contact
your legislator! Thank you!
SENATOR JOHNNY ISAKSON AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
Due to an alert sent out by NumbersUSA today, I have
received several emails regarding Senator Isakson’s bill dealing with
illegal immigration. In their alert they state:
"It (referring to an article in National Review
Online) says Isakson’s is a better amnesty than the McCain/Kennedy one."
They go on to write "Isakson is proposing giving legal status to most of the
12 million illegal aliens as soon as certain border security measures are in
place."
I called his office in DC to get the facts. Here is
what Chris Carr, his Deputy chief of Staff said:
"Senator Isakson has consistently stated his number
one priority is to secure the borders. He has also consistently stated there
is no pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Those two points are
non-negotiable."
Further, he has been quoted as saying, "We have a
pathway to citizenship. It is called legal immigration. If you want to
become a citizen, you have to go home and get in line like everyone else."
As to his so-called "secret" meetings with the White
House – those are no secret. The meetings have been written about in several
national publications. Of course, the Senator is meeting with any and all
who will listen to him on this critical issue.
Senator Isakson has taken the lead on illegal
immigration ever since he was elected – and will continue to do so. If you
would like to call his office to thank him and encourage him, I know that
would be appreciated. It is not easy to hold the line when powerful forces
are against you. His number is 202-224-3643.
