KEEPING THE FAITH
ACTION ALERT
February 7, 2009
THANK YOU SENATOR ISAKSON AND
CHAMBLISS for your commitment to vote against the almost $1 trillion
so-called “stimulus” package!
For a breakdown click here.
This in from Chris Carr, Senator Isakson’s Chief of
Staff, late last night: “Johnny will vote no on cloture and final
passage.”
Heard from Charlie Harmon, Senator Chambliss’ Chief of
Staff, just now – Saxby is also going to vote no.
Please call to thank them for standing up for the people. While it is
not over, we can be proud of our Senators for doing the right thing.
Senator’s Isakson: (202) 224-3643 * Senator Chambliss: (202) 224-3521
Conservative principle’s do not change based on the language of a bill.
What Bush did – and Obama is trying to expand upon – is nothing less
than a government out of control – taking over the economy – then it is
Katy bar the door.
Once the government controls the economic well-being of the people the
will to resist other government controls wanes. To whatever extent the
“State” controls our economy ultimately directs every other aspect of
our lives as well.
Edmund Opitz in “Religion: Foundation of the Free Society,” writes:
“…whoever controls a man’s subsistence has acquired a leverage over the
man himself, which impairs his freedom of thought, speech, and worship.
F. A. Hayek put it another way in “The Road to Serfdom:” “Economic
control is not merely control of a sector of human life which can be
separated from the rest; it is the control of the means for all our
ends.”
WHERE IS TODAY’S DAVY CROCKETT?
One day in the House of Representatives, a bill was taken up
appropriating money for the benefit of a widow of a distinguished naval
officer. Several beautiful speeches had been made in its support. The
Speaker was just about to put the question when Mr. Crockett arose:
"Mr. Speaker --- I have as much respect for the memory of the deceased,
and as much sympathy for the suffering of the living, if suffering there
be, as any man in this house, but we must not permit our respect for the
dead or our sympathy for a part of the living to lead us into an act of
injustice to the balance of the living. I will not go into an argument
to prove that Congress has no power to appropriate this money as an act
of charity. Every member upon this floor knows it. We have the right, as
individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in
charity; but as members of Congress we have no right to appropriate a
dollar of the public money. Some eloquent appeals have been made to us
upon the ground that it is a debt due the deceased. Mr. Speaker, the
deceased lived long after the close of the war; he was in office to the
day of his death, and I have never heard that the government was in
arrears to him.
"Every man in this House knows it is not a debt. We cannot, without the
grossest corruption, appropriate this money as the payment of a debt. We
have not the semblance of authority to appropriate it as a charity. Mr.
Speaker, I have said we have the right to give as much money of our own
as we please. I am the poorest man on this floor. I cannot vote for this
bill, but I will give one week's pay to the object, and, if every member
of Congress will do the same, it will amount to more than the bill.

FLIP FLOP - I JUST WANT TO BE RE-ELECTED BARROW
Barrow’s leader, Speaker of the House Pelosi is a disgrace to her
professed Catholic faith – and to women – and men - who do not put a
price tag on human life. To think, she is third in line for the
presidency if circumstances dictate. I am not sure who is the most
virulent enemy of babies in the womb – Obama who voted against providing
medical treatment for babies who survive an abortion – or a woman who
believes they are part of a stimulus package.
While up for re-election, GA Congressman John Barrow (D-12) – no deaf
ear to the Georgians who did not want the government bailing out anyone!
- voted against the first bill issuing the statement below. After being
re-elected in November he voted on January 29, 2009, for HR 1 – the
second bailout. I have searched high and low to find a statement about
why he supported HR 1 – it ain’t there.
Rep. John Barrow Statement on Senate Bailout Package
Friday, October 3, 2008
Following today’s vote on H.R. 1424, Congressman John Barrow released
this statement:
“The economy is in real trouble, but that means we have to make sure
that what we do will actually help. I believe this plan will do more
harm than good – maybe not now, but sooner or later. The Senate tried to
send us something we could all agree on, but all they really did was
dress up the same bill we voted on earlier this week with sweeteners to
get some members of the House to change their vote. Most of the new
items in this bill I have voted for and would vote for again, but not if
it means voting for a bailout that’ll do more harm than good. I hope I’m
wrong, but that’s how it looks right now.”
Fast forward to January 29, 2009 – three months after being re-elected.
Barrow voiced no objection to a bill that would have given states a 9-1
funding ratio for Medicaid services –“ family planning” (aka abortion
funding and contraceptives) as proposed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
(Obama asked for this to be taken out of the “stimulus package” after he
heard Nancy on the Sunday morning talk shows – in a pathetic, shameful
attempt to defend her position.)
Roman Catholic Pelosi explains, “Well, the family planning services
reduce cost. They reduce cost,” Pelosi responded, when asked about the
funding in HR 1 for family planning. The states are in terrible fiscal
budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health,
education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their
financial needs. One of those--one of the initiatives you mentioned, the
contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal
government.” (Put into lingo we understand), “We can help the states
with their financial problems by making sure fewer babies are born.”
Barrow did vote for what was left in the bill that has absolutely
nothing to do with creating jobs, getting the economy back on track -
and all the other pie in the sky stuff Obama has said this bill would
do.
The ObamACORN payback. It’s still in there The Democrats’ “stimulus”
proposals could make the group — and its lesser-known, even more radical
ideological allies — eligible for upwards of $5 billion in new public
cash. As expected, the slush fund/payback program for the left-wing
fraudsters is still in there. Here’s the
direct link to the section in H.R. 1. (Michelle Malkin • January 29,
2009)
And he voted for these additional “stimulus to the
economy provisions:”
- 400 million for researching sexually transmitted
diseases,
- $200 million for bike and pedestrian trails and
off-road vehicle routes,
- $200 million to force the military to buy
environmentally friendly electric cars,
- $34 million to renovate the Department of
Commerce headquarters,
- $75 million for a program to end smoking.
Thank you for Keeping The Faith,
