KEEPING THE FAITH
ACTION ALERT
March 11, 2009
Just IN!
Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss oppose the
nomination of David Ogden to serve as deputy attorney general in the U.
S. Justice Department.
We are always quick to call our elected officials when we disagree with
them. But, sometimes we forget to thank them for doing the right thing.
Please make that call to Senator Isakson 202-224-3643 and Chambliss
202-224-3521 and thank them for standing against the nomination of
Ogden.
David Ogden filed a brief in Planned Parenthood v Casey, and here are
the relevant quotes:
"Abortion rarely causes or exacerbates psychological or emotional
problems. When women do experience regret, depression, or guilt, such
feelings are mild and diminish rapidly without adversely affecting
general functioning. The few women who do experience negative
psychological responses after abortion appear to be those with
preexisting emotional problems ...."
"In sum, it is grossly misleading to tell a woman that abortion imposes
possible detrimental psychological effects when the risks are negligible
in most cases, when the evidence shows that she is more likely to
experience feelings of relief and happiness, and when child-birth and
child-rearing or adoption may pose concomitant (if not greater) risks or
adverse psychological effects ...."
The Senate is scheduled to vote Thursday on the nomination of David
Ogden to serve as deputy attorney general.
Senator Isakson will miss the vote because he will deliver the eulogy at
the funeral of a good friend in Chicago. But, if there he would vote
against Ogden’s confirmation.
Senator Chambliss will be there and will vote no.
Thank you for Keeping The Faith,
Sadie Fields
