KEEPING THE FAITH ACTION ALERT October 28, 2005 ALERT: Now that Harriet Miers has withdrawn her name for nomination to the U. S. Supreme court, we have the opportunity to get a true conservative on the court who will exercise judicial restraint, interpret the Constitution, and uphold the rule of law. In 1999, on “Meet The Press,” the future president said that the justices he most admired were Scalia and Thomas. He referred to Scalia, during one of the debates, as his favorite U. S. Supreme Court judge, and the kind he would nominate during his presidency. In 2000 and in 2004 he repeatedly stated that, if elected and if a U. S. Supreme Court slot opened up, he would nominate justices in the same mold as Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. In a debate with Gore during the presidential campaign Mr. Bush said, “That’s going to be a big difference between my opponent and me…I don’t believe in liberal, activist judges.” In a campaign speech Mr. Bush said, “I’m going to name strict constructionists to the bench,” defining that as a judge who “doesn’t use the opportunity of the Constitution to pass legislation or legislate from the bench.” The President has promised. Now we must let him know that we expect him to fulfill that promise. This is going to be a battle, and the President needs to hear from you! We must let him know that there is an outpouring of support for him to do the right thing. ACTION: Please call the White House comment line at 202-456-1111 to let him know that we are with him as he looks for the most competent conservative jurist to fill this important vacancy.
Thank you for Keeping The Faith. |
