KEEPING THE FAITH ACTION ALERT
January 23, 2006
SB 425 – “The Georgia Child, Family, School
Communications Act”
A hearing will be held tomorrow at the State Capitol in room 125 to hear
testimony in support or opposition to this bill. SB 425 works
essentially like the do not call registry for your home telephone. It
is strictly voluntary.
A parent who has a minor child that has access to a computer can
register their email address with a secured state registry. A school
and/or library can register their entire domain address.
This would prohibit those who surf in cyberspace looking for young
people in particular to prey upon. It would prohibit them from sending
anything that is illegal for a child under 18 years of age which
includes pornography; drug/gambling related material, or any other
subject matter that is illegal for underage children.
It would also give parents extra protection from child predators who
seek to entice children away from their homes via the Internet into a
world of sex, drugs and violence.
The Christian Coalition of Georgia strongly supports this voluntary
measure – and we emphasize voluntary - that will enable parents to
further protect their children from the new world of Internet dangers.
ACTION: If you can attend the hearing at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday,
January 24) in State Capitol Room 125, please do so.
If not, then please contact Committee Chairman of Science and Technology
St. Senator David Shafer at 404-651-7738, fax to 404-651-5795, email
david.shafer@senate.ga.gov and urge him to allow this bill out of
his committee for a vote.
Thank you for Keeping The Faith.
