KEEPING THE FAITH - In The News
Easter Message
March 21, 2008

Dear Friends,

Last year my Easter greeting was about my six-year old grandson who asked me, "Grandmother how do you know God is real? You cannot see Him or touch Him." I replied, "You invite God to come into your heart and He gives you an awareness of His presence." A moment of silence, then he asked "Grandmother, can I invite God into my heart?" "Of course," I replied. We then prayed for God to come into his heart for always and for this "seed of faith to bloom."

This Easter he is seven years old and will be in church with me on Sunday morning to celebrate our Savior’s resurrection. It is hard to know with one so young exactly what he is thinking - but I know for sure – my grandson has a soft, teachable heart. When he goes to church with me on Sunday, he now likes to follow the scripture reading for the day in my Bible. And, he sits still and listens!

My two other grandsons – his brothers - (4 and 5 years of age) are also open to my faith. Last Sunday night, brave soul that I am, I had all three over to spend the night. On the way home I talked to them about the upcoming weekend and what it meant. Of course, what they heard the most was the Easter egg hunt and Easter baskets – baking Easter cookies – decorating Easter eggs - which Grandmother has in store for them. With Sunday night dinner in mind, I asked my three boys, "What would you like for Grandmother to cook for Easter dinner?" My 5 year old grandson piped up and said, "Grandmother, I know it is for Thanksgiving – but could we have turkey and dressing – and went on to say he wanted the "stick with a lot of meat on top." I asked, "Do you mean the drumstick?" "Yes," he answered. "Of course," I responded.

I told my grandson – who had requested Thanksgiving dinner for Easter dinner – how appropriate that was – and explained that as we give thanks at Thanksgiving – we give even more thanks at Easter for the life of Christ and that He loved us so much He gave His live for us so that we might live forever. All three looked at me with wide eyes asking "what does that mean, Grandmother?" It is my absolutely delight and a blessing from God that I can tell them the truth of what our Savior’s death and resurrection and what it means to me – to them – and to all "who will come."

The movie, "The Passion of the Christ," has been put on a DVD for children. We will watch that on Sunday night after the Easter egg hunt – the Easter baskets – the cookies we will bake – the eggs we will decorate – and after we enjoy the turkey and dressing and the "stick with a lot of meat on top."

Thanks be to God for giving me these three wonderful grandsons to create memories for and for giving me the opportunity to tell them that as much as I love them (to the moon and back) – He loves them even more.

Have a wonderful resurrection Sunday with you and yours.

Thank you for Keeping The Faith.

Why I'm Rooting for the Religious Right
Secular liberals show open contempt for traditionalists
