KEEPING THE FAITH - In The News
January 28, 2009
Ignorance is bliss. Knowledge equals
responsibility.
For those of us who love this country, we must be informed
and actively involved in the decisions made by those who have power over our
lives. Our nation is at a critical point. Arrived here, I believe, due to an
ignorant – apathetic – and I’m okay – you’re okay mentality among the
populous. As long as Frank – Sue – or whatever the name can take their kids
to Disneyland for a weekend – all is okay. Never looking at the underbelly
of the beast to see what is really going on.
Whitaker Chambers wrote, ‘If only liberals could see what
they believe leads to socialism and if only socialists could see what they
believe leads to communism.” If only.
Founded as a Representative Republic – long ago and far away
- we have been heading toward this moment for decades. Obama is not the
first president who believed government was the solution for all our
problems. Past presidents – to some extent – believed the same. The road has
been paved for this man and his administration to wage a frontal assault on
the Constitution as never before. The Constitution for which men died - the
document that sets us apart from all other nations – which if adhered to
ensures we will remain the freest nation in the world. The stage is set –
the lights are dimmed – the audience is waiting with baited breath to see
what new entitlement will come their way. The politicians who are now in
power have taken their positions on the world stage.
Prior to the 2008 presidential election, Howard Stern sent
his staff out on the street to ask voters why they were voting for McCain or
Obama. They switched positions – asking Obama supporters (McCain’s
positions) “Are you voting for Obama because he is pro-life and believes in
cutting taxes?” The answer was “Like, yea – I am all for him.” Not a clue.
Not a clue. Just keep those checks and promises of more “Let us take care of
you” coming.

Information for this Keeping The Faith newsletter is from our
good friend Gary Bauer, Campaign for Working Families.
At the end of this KTF, Gary encourages all to support Crisis
Pregnancy Centers. I am personally involved with Pickens Pregnancy Center in
Jasper, GA, and encourage you to make a tax deductible contribution to them
– or to some other facility that offers women a true choice.
Pickens Pregnancy Center is a 501 (c)3 non-profit Christian
organization ministering to young women who are facing an unplanned
pregnancy. The Center is funded by tax deductible donations from
individuals, churches, and organizations. Our counselors and teachers are
all volunteers who have a heart for young women facing tough decisions.
There is no charge for their services.
On Saturday, March 7, 2009, Ralph Reed will be the keynote
speaker for a fundraiser for this center. Go online to their website for
more information.

Obama Reassures Muslim World – Scares This American
Last night, President Barack Obama gave his first TV
interview since his inauguration, and he chose an Arab language satellite
network, the Al-Arabiya news channel. In his remarks, Obama makes two
assertions that give us an insight into his worldview. It is not reassuring.
First, President Obama said he felt his “job” was to
communicate “to the Muslim world … that the Americans are not your enemy.”
Why does the president feel he must reassure Muslims that “Americans” are
not their enemy? It was the United States that was attacked on 9/11 by
jihadists acting in the name of Islam.
Our response to that cowardly attack was to send our military
not to subjugate Muslims but to liberate millions of them in Iraq and
Afghanistan from the rule of tyrants and thugs. People of both countries
were able to vote for the first time in their lives. In Afghanistan today,
in those areas where the U.S. is in control, Muslim girls are permitted to
go to school. Where radical Islamists are in control, acid is thrown in the
faces of girls who try to go to school, and their classrooms are blown up.
After the attack of 9/11, we went out of our way to ensure
that mosques in the United States were safe from any kind of backlash.
Throughout the Muslim world, Christians and Jews continue to be persecuted.
But in spite of all the evidence of the good we have done, the president
feels a need to tell Muslims that we are not their enemy.
President Obama told his Muslim audience that he had another
task. Here’s how he put it: “And my job is to communicate to the American
people that the Muslim world is filled with extraordinary people who simply
want to live their lives and see their children live better lives.” Even if
the president is right, my first reaction is, “So what?” Those Muslims who
simply want to enjoy peace and quiet are not the problem. It is the Muslims
who nurture groups like Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic
Jihad and countless other murderous fanatics who matter most.
From London to Madrid, Manhattan to Mumbai, Beslan to Buenos
Aires, it is those Islamists who have intentionally inflicted death and
destruction on helpless civilians in the name of Allah. If only ten percent
of the “Muslim world” supports these murderers, then our enemy numbers 150
million. Unfortunately, there is ample evidence that the number is larger.
Add on top of that a virulent Jew-hatred that appears to infect even the
populations of “moderate” Muslim countries, like Indonesia and Jordan, and
the size of our problem becomes obvious.
The man in the Oval Office is unprepared for the job of
keeping our country safe. His instincts are wrong. We have no need to
apologize to the “Muslim world.” And we certainly should not deceive
ourselves into thinking that Islamofascism is a small or isolated problem.
Reality is likely eventually to educate the president. God forbid that it
might take another 9/11 to do it.

Geithner Confirmed
Timothy “The Turbo Tax Evader” Geithner was confirmed last
night to be Treasury Secretary and to oversee the IRS in spite of the fact
that he failed to pay tens of thousands of dollars in taxes and employed an
illegal alien.
The lopsided Senate vote in favor of his confirmation –
60-to-34 – does not reflect the feelings of the American people. Last week,
a Rasmussen poll found the public deeply divided, with 41% against his
confirmation, 41% in favor and 18% undecided. Had the debate over his
nomination continued much longer, I suspect he might have been defeated.
But President Obama stood by his man, and the vote fell
largely along party lines, with 93% of Senate Democrats voting to confirm
Geithner and 75% of Senate Republicans voting against his confirmation. A
handful of Republicans supported Geithner, even with his tax problems,
believing he was preferable to other names that had been floated by the
Obama Administration.
The double standard for favored elites is no doubt confusing
and frustrating to most Americans. Like illegal immigration, it seems too
many of our leaders are too willing to excuse criminal behavior. Just like
Bill Clinton’s White House escapades, Geithner’s confirmation sends a poor
signal to America’s youth about the importance of character, especially when
no one is looking. It’s extraordinarily hypocritical of our politicians to
rail against greed and corruption on Wall Street, to make Bernie Madoff the
symbol of American capitalism, and then to give a pass to the Treasury
Secretary for tax evasion.
And poor Caroline Kennedy! Wasn’t she just denied an
appointment to the United States Senate for allegedly doing the very things
to which Mr. Geithner had confessed?

Support Pregnancy Resource Centers
This is a special item to all of you who run pregnancy
resource centers and birth clinics around the country. You are more
important than ever! We have already seen what the new leadership in
Washington believes “change” means – more abortions and more attacks on the
right to life. The misnamed Freedom of Choice Act will be the next assault
on the sanctity of life.
Pregnancy resource centers are often the only hope a woman
has to avoid the bad choice of destroying her own flesh and blood. I promise
you we will do everything we can to defeat the radical pro-abortion agenda
and to defeat any attack on pregnancy resource centers.
Every year, I enjoy making dozens of speeches to all sorts of
organizations. But none bring more pleasure than speaking to pregnancy
resource centers. Fortunately, we have consistently been very effective in
raising millions of dollars for centers all over the country. If you are
looking for a speaker for your pregnancy resource center event this year,
please give us a call at 703-671-8800. We will do our best to work it into
our schedule at a reasonable cost to you.
Thank you for Keeping The Faith,
Sadie Fields
